If you are an aspiring indoor cannabis grower, one of the biggest decisions you will make is which lights you choose to incorporate into your indoor garden. You will need to consider a number of factors when making your choice. If you have done any amount of research, you have likely come across LED lights. Are they good for growing cannabis plants?
In years past I would have been very quick to shoot down the thought of using LED lights in indoor cannabis gardens. However, LED grow lights have come a long way in recent years. A number of companies have put in the research and development to create some really effective LED grow lights.
It’s absolutely worth pointing out that not all LED grow lights are created equal. Chances are if you see an LED light that is being marketed as being good for growing cannabis, but the light is really cheap, it’s likely too good to be true. Yes, they will help cannabis plants grow, but not in a way that is desirable.
There’s a big difference between a cannabis plant simply ”growing’ versus a cannabis plant reaching its full potential. You can get just about any LED grow light on the internet and it’s going to make an indoor cannabis plant increase in size, but that’s not the same as saying that it will help create a monster-sized cannabis plant that has solid quality and yield.
A good LED grow light will have the right spectrum and intensity and will include specialized lenses that focus the light to where it needs to go, compared to an LED grow light that sends light in every direction.
Quality LED lights have specific spectrums that cannabis plants crave. If an LED grow light does not mention which spectrums it’s putting off, then it’s probably just an LED light meant for illuminating a bedroom or other space, and it’s not designed specifically for cultivating cannabis.
LED grow lights are a great option for indoor growers because they use less electricity and put off next to no heat compared to other grow lights. Quality LED grow lights are not cheap, but they more than make up for the extra cost over time with the savings on electricity directly and indirectly.
